The Martian - Book Challenge

Due on Dec 02 25 words minimum
INTRO: Definitely full of facts and tech challenges. Even maths challenges of a really practical nature. I listened to the audiobook of this and found that the main character was funny and intelligent. If you have seen the movie the book will not disappoint. There is both a simple edition as well as the original edition (they took out all the mild curse words).

REVIEW: A mission to Mars. A freak accident. One man's struggle to survive.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars.

Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there.

After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate the planet while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded on Mars' surface, completely alone, with no way to signal Earth that he’s alive. And even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone years before a rescue could arrive.

Chances are, though, Mark won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment or plain-old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

But Mark's not ready to quit. Armed with nothing but his ingenuity and his engineering skills—and a gallows sense of humor that proves to be his greatest source of strength–he embarks on a dogged quest to stay alive, using his botany expertise to grow food and even hatching a mad plan to contact NASA back on Earth.

As he overcomes one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next, Mark begins to let himself believe he might make it off the planet alive.

But Mars has plenty of surprises in store for him yet.

The main character, Mark, was most likely a very smart and diligent person at school. He was most likely engaged in many different sports and he was most likely engaged in many creative tasks. I would assume he would be a very creative person and I would most certainly be friends with him.

I think that he would have been the creative, class clown, but would have knuckled down to do the work. He would enjoyed innovative subjects like DT, engineering and Science and he would have liked a challenge involving problem solving. I think he would have been an awesome friend to have because I feel like he would always make you feel better.

I feel that this character would have been a relatively smart person at school but also good at sports. He would have enjoyed science and physical challenges both good qualities for an astronaut. He would have been a resourceful and brave character.

I believe as a student Mark Watney would have been competitive, hardworking and extremely smart. All qualities needed to become an astronaut. He would have enjoyed academical activities and especially challenges, as he is faced with a major one on Mars. He would have been quiet but not too quiet, humble, confident and smart. If one of my friends became stranded on Mars and survived by himself, I would be extremely proud to be his friend.

1 + 2) Well he may of been interesting in space for him to want to go and also in plants as that is how he went
3) Maybe was a casual student as he seemed casual
4) He also would have been smart as he stayed alive and another planet
5) He would have been popular but done none of the dodgy things like stereotypes such as drugs
