Mentor Meeting Assignment: Choose Research Topic + Outline Due (BEFORE Mentor Meeting)

This week we'll begin a research paper that we'll work on for the next three weeks.  You'll learn about the writing process, best practices for researching a topic, how to organize your essay and how to cite your sources.  This is great practice for College for America at Southern New Hampshire University - many of your projects will require these skills.  Be sure to choose the project for YOUR degree!

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Download the project....General Studies with focus in Business is located here; Healthcare Management project is located here
  2. Read the entire project, start to finish.
  3. Use the "Resources" section to review the concepts of counterfeit, piracy, intellectual property, licensing, trademark and copyright.  Make sure you understand the types of products that are most commonly counterfeited and pirated, and why. Think about the consequences of counterfeit and piracy and the people who are affected.
  4. Healthcare Management: You will research and explore pharmaceuticals for your topic.  General Studies-Business: Choose one of these three topics to explore:
    1. Software and/or media (CDs, DVDs)
    2. Fashion and luxury goods
    3. Pharmaceuticals
  5. Research the topic you've selected. Use the resources listed in the project, but also feel free to google resources.  Make sure you keep track of where you find your information and what you find.
    1. To do this well, you MUST take notes while you do research.  PRO TIP #1: Use a Google doc--It makes it easy to copy/paste information you find.
    2. PRO TIP #2: Every time you go to a new website, copy and paste the link into your Research Notes document.  Then, write or copy/paste any information from that site you find below the link.
  6. Formulate a thesis.
  7. Write an outline for your research paper (make sure you include your thesis!)
  8.  Share your research notes (from Step 4) and your outline (from Step 7) with your CCA.
